Exhibition of Printmakers from Portland and around the Globe

The upcoming exhibitions at 12×16 Gallery in Sellwood is about a Solo- and a Group Show of Printmaker from Portland and around the Globe.

November 2.-26.2017 with Artist Reception November 5. from 2-4pm

I hope, visitors will enjoy images printed with etching, stone-lithography, woodcut/lino-cut, moku hanga, and monotypes from over 10 Artists of Printmaking.

“Facial Expression included”

In my new prints I want to express moments, and want to challenge the viewers, if they can find the appearance of a face, but also look at something or even someone – with eyes, with a face, and don’t look away. Even looking twice to see the facial expression the image communicates, and connect with it, good or bad. Because faces and eyes are alive and always worth to look at, being the connection to our surroundings and to our world, and soul.

To work on lithography stones most of the time the image appears like a drawing, keeping lines and shading like pencil strokes. In that case the viewer can also look again to see the craftsmanship of stone lithography.

“Beate and her Friends in Printmaking”

I also curated the adjacent group show of printmakers from around the globe I got to know of, and befriend with for several years. The artists, I invited are printmaker, who helped me to treasure prints, and the printmaking process of stone-Lithography, etchings, and woodcut.

The group show of printmaker friends is with an open theme; I invited those artists and wanted to show with, because I very appreciate their work I was influenced by one way or another.

Exhibit will include works of Ellen Emerson, Eleanor H. Erskine, Susan Hurrell-Fields (NZ), Katherine McDowell, Mary Pacios, Nicole Rawlins, Richard Steiner (Japan), Graham Stephens (Chicago, IL.) and more

Residency in Sofia, Bulgaria through Lessedra in 2013

2013: a year of changes….!?

One of my New Year resolution’s is to become more involved in art and art making, and I want to do more printing and painting. To have a BA degree in Art should let you think, go for it and be the artist you wanted to be since you got out of high school.

Now, I guess, it becomes time to follow that dream and make it reality.

Having the opportunity to work in the print studio at PSU (Portland State University) with student, makes it even more exciting, and rewarding, too at the same time.

I explain the technique of Stone Lithography, and how to create beautiful prints to interested junior and senior students in the intermediate and advanced course, each term. I started in 2010 to work with students. To see their development over the lengths of a term, even over a few terms, until their graduation is very inspiring and exciting.

Because of my profession as a printmaker, a few years ago I got the invitation to attend the annual Mini Print Show in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Check it out:

The Lessedra Gallery organizes this event 2013 the 12th time. To be a part of it is great, but I never had the chance to visit the show in person.

Last year I got the acceptance for a 2-week residency at the Art Village in 2013. Working on prints, getting involved with country, people, and other artists is very exciting and I am looking forward to go to Europe later this summer. And it might be still in time to see the show in Sofia.

Other plans are attending Portland Open Studio in October, after a great first time in 2012.

Watch posts about further developments of my career in art.
